Steel
Steel is a very common material, is relatively easy to cut, and the OMAX® will cut all grades of steel. One advantage of the OMAX is that you can cut steel after it has been hardened with minimal slow-down of cutting (see Hardened Tool Steel).
The lack of heat affected zone from the abrasivejet means that you don't change the heat treatment of the steel as you cut it. The OMAX also produces a smooth cut on the edge without burn marks, cracking, excess burr, or other problems typically associated with heat-based cutting.
Some steel may rust if left in the tank for a very long time. Typically, however, parts are removed from the tank soon enough that they do not experience problems with rusting. Cutting completely submerged can help reduce rusting, which requires oxygen.

The Sea Catch Toggle Release is a mechanical quick release that is designed exclusively for releasing an object or line under load.
With a patented, well-thought-out design, it uses over-center toggle linkage to safely secure a load, release a load and dampen shock.

Pictured here are several parts machined from 3.1" (79mm) thick steel.
Note: the use of corner passing to speed up the machining of outside corners and provide for higher tolerance.
Corner passing is automatically inserted into the tool path by OMAX Make, and it can make a huge difference in cutting time, especially on thick parts with sharp outside corners. Corner passing also improves precision slightly.
