A Word About "Accuracy"

Positioning accuracy

The accuracy of the XY-motion over a specific range:
  • Static measured with nozzle stopped
  • Dynamic measured with nozzle in motion

Part accuracy

The overall accuracy of the finished part can be affected by:
  • Dynamic positioning accuracy
  • Relative motion between the X-Y axis assembly and the material support table
  • Relative motion between the material support table and the material being cut
  • Cutting tool offset value input by operator
  • Effect of cutting speed variation on width of cut (kerf)
  • Cut Quality and Machinability Index selected by operator
  • Taper caused by nozzle condition and/or nozzle standoff and/or cutting speed
  • Z-Axis non-perpendicularity

Repeatability

The consistency of the XY-motion

Part Repeatability

The consistency among parts. Affected by:
  • XY-motion repeatability
  • Relative motion between the XY-axis assembly and the material support table
  • Relative motion between the material support table and the material being cut
  • Jet growth caused by nozzle wear
  • Change in taper caused by nozzle wear or changing standoff
