A Word About "Accuracy"
Positioning accuracy
The accuracy of the XY-motion over a specific range:
- Static measured with nozzle stopped
- Dynamic measured with nozzle in motion
Part accuracy
The overall accuracy of the finished part can be affected by:
- Dynamic positioning accuracy
- Relative motion between the X-Y axis assembly and the material support
table
- Relative motion between the material support table and the material
being cut
- Cutting tool offset value input by operator
- Effect of cutting speed variation on width of cut (kerf)
- Cut Quality and Machinability Index selected by operator
- Taper caused by nozzle condition and/or nozzle standoff and/or cutting
speed
- Z-Axis non-perpendicularity
Repeatability
The consistency of the XY-motion
Part Repeatability
The consistency among parts. Affected by:
- XY-motion repeatability
-
- Relative motion between the XY-axis assembly and the material support table
- Relative motion between the material support table and the material
being cut
- Jet growth caused by nozzle wear
- Change in taper caused by nozzle wear or changing standoff
